Egypt to resurrect Alexandria lighthouse for year 2000 celebrations,

International and Egyptian companies began measures to reestablish the lighthouse of Alexandria, considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, within the framework of the Egyptian government's plan to reconstruct the monuments of old Alexandria, which began with the Romanian Theater, Amoud El-Swari, the Kait Bay Citadel and the Alexandria Library.

The project aims at establishing a tourist project on the form of a floating Island with an area of 28,000 square meters comprising four levels in the lighthouse, the sun hall marina yacht and a glass submarine where the light house will be constructed at a hight of 160 meters with a metallic design that will reflect the spirit of the third millennium.

The cost of the first stage will amount to 2.7 billion euros, in addition to grants from the Egyptian government as well as Egyptian and European organizations. The first stage will be inaugurated at the end of the twentieth century.
