Iraq denies Shiite disorder as a result of al-Sader's death
Iraq, Politics, 2/23/1999

Iraq has categorically denied that there is any disorder following the assassination of the prominent Shiite man of religion Muhammad Sadeq al-Sader and his two sons.

An Iraqi official told ArabicNews.com that what is claimed by information bodies and hostile fronts against Iraq that there is disorder in a number of Iraqi governorates are fabricated statements and have nothing to do with truth.

He added that anti-Iraqi organizations want to create a state of disarray in Iraq, will all the reporters to visit Nissan and Dicar cities in southern Iraq to learn about the situation in Iraq.

The Shiite opposition said that clashes that erupted due to the assassination of al-Sader continued yesterday in southern and central Iraq, resulting in the death of hundreds. They added that the Iraqi armed forces are setting up to confront the clashes.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Iraqis residing in Jordan began demonstrations that denounced the assassination of Muhammad Sadeq al-Sader and his two sons, Mustafa and Nafel in the Iraqi city of Najaf last Friday.

The Iraqi demonstrators repeated slogans and expressions that lay the responsibility for al-Sader's assassination on the Iraqi authorities.

Iraqi opposition sources told ArabicNews.com that 45 days ago al-Sader was summoned to the bureau of the Iraqi manager of public security Taher El-Tekriti, then he met with the head of intelligence. The sources stated that the security forces instructed al-Sader to be committed to certain conditions, and that these conditions are not to be overlooked.
