A Phoenician stamp for the French post
Lebanon-Syria-France, Culture, 2/23/1999
The French government has released a stamp representing part of the Lebanese and Syrian cultural heritage. The stamp depicts the picture of kidnapping Europa, daughter of Ajinour, the Phoenician King of Tyre.
Chairman of the Arab World Institute in Paris Kamil Kapana and the institute's director, Nasser al- Insari, called for a celebration on this occasion to be attended by the French Culture Minister and Lebanese Minister of Higher Education Muhammad Youssef Beidoun on Thursday March 4 at the Institute in Paris.
The mythology is depicted by the mosaic panel available at the Lebanese Museum.
It was later taken to France for restoration and is displayed at the institute in coordination with the Lebanese government.
The myth tells that Zeus, the ruler of the gods, was deeply in love with Europa. He was converted to a white bull and kidnapped her to Crete where she gave birth to her son Minos.
Her brother Qadmous chased her to bring her back and he established the city of Tebah and other cities in Greece and he transferred the Phoenician alphabet to that area.
