Turkish army commander to visit Damascus today
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 2/23/1999

The Turkish Daily News reported on Monday that the commander of the Turkish Second Army, Gen. Etach Suleiman, will visit Syria today to meet with the chairman of Syrian political intelligence, Lt. Gen. Adnan Bader Hassan and with Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa.

The paper added that it seems that Ankara and Damascus are intending to settle all pending issues between them, adding that despite this, the Turkish officials still complain that Damascus is not "fully sesirous to completely abide by the Adanah agreement signed between the two countries."

The paper stated that Syria and Turkey have recently signed the protocol as "an initiative of closeness, which permits to unify family-members on the two parts of the borders between the two countries, as in the past relatives used to see each other through the barbed wires."
