Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed said he is going to invite the Jordanian and Yemeni foreign ministers to visit Kuwait soon to resume diplomatic relations between these countries and Kuwait. This invitation is considered the first of its sort since the Gulf War. The Lebanese committee for the Abd El-Naser Prize granted the prize, worth $130,000, to Egyptian writer Mohammed Hassanein Heikel for his contributions to deepening Arab thought. Heikel announced his acceptance of the prize, which will be delivered on July 26, the anniversary of nationalizing the Suez Canal. Yet Heikel refused to accepting the financial prize and asked for the sum to be dedicated to supporting the committee's work.
