On the annexation of the town of Arnoun
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 2/22/1999

An International Red Cross team on Sunday entered the town of Arnoun which the Israeli occupation forces took over and added to the occupied part of south Lebanon four days ago.

The team includes a doctor from the Red Cross to check on the state of people's health.

The citizens of the town are still refusing to cross the checkpoint at Kafr Tabnit manned by the Israeli troops, and they insist that the main road of the town be opened.

Meanwhile, the head of defense and security committee at the Lebanese Parliament, Sami al-Khatib, said Israel's annexation of Arnoun is a new form of hostile policy being pursued by Tel Aviv against Lebanon.

In a statement Saturday, Khatib called on the Lebanese government to lodge a complaint with the UN Security Council if the five-state April Understanding Monitoring Committee (Syria, Lebanon, the US, Israel and France) fails to bring the state of affairs back to normalcy.

The Hizbullah party on Friday vowed to retaliate against Israel for seizing the village. A statement released in Beirut said: "Hizbullah pledges to our people in Arnoun, and the occupied zone, to make the enemy repent its new crime."
