Palestinian Democratic Front stresses commitment to Palestinians in diaspora
Palestine, Politics, 2/22/1999
A member of the central committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ali Badwan, said the front will be always committed to the Palestinians on the diaspora. He expressed hope that the leadership of the front will be available in the Palestinian territories.
In a statement to Sawt Phalastine radio on Sunday, Badwan criticized the decision of the Palestinian opposition groups adopted recently in dropping the membership of the democratic front because of the handshake incident between its chairman, Nayef Hawatemah, and Israeli President Ezer Weizman, on the sidelines of King Hussein's funeral in Amman.
He characterized this decision as "an unreal reading of the Palestinian political map." Badwan continued that certain Palestinian opposition groups used the handshake as a pretext to launch a media campaign against the front.
He added that the front was always in favor of the principle of negotiations and that it calls for balanced negotiations with Israel according to UN resolutions.
