Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 2/20/1999
The Egyptian authorities cancelled an Arab symposium under the title of "Challenges of Zionist project and Arab confrontation," which was to begin on Sunday. Among the expected participants are the leader of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Geroge Habash, and the head of Hamas' political bureau Khaled Mishal, who Israel tried to assassinate in 1997, were to attend.
The head of the Arab Research Center in Cairo, Helmy Shaurawi, who organized the symposium, said the Egyptian authorities did not approve the convening of a symposium. He said he will do his best to convene it at another time, and he will not cancel it.
