UNESCO chief hails Morocco's human rights progress
Morocco-UN, Politics, 2/20/1999
UNESCO director-general Federico Mayor on Friday hailed the progress achieved by Morocco in matters of human rights.
The appointment as prime minister of a "great" human rights activist, who is famous throughout the world, reflects Morocco's determination "to give each man and woman the possibility to express themselves," Mayor told Morocco's second television channel, 2M.
He was hinting at the appointment of Abderrahmane Youssoufi, leader of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces and founding member of several Arab and African human rights bodies.
Mayor is attending in Rabat an international conference on human rights and education in the Arab World.
