Morocco decides to use Arabic only in drafting laws
Morocco, Culture, 2/19/1999
Morocco, where the French language is widely used, has decided that Arabic will be the sole Language used in drafting laws.
The measure was announced by the department of public service and administrative reform, which said that the move is part of the reforms of the administration.
Last year, the Socialist Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi had urged administrations, public institutions and local councils to use Arabic in their various dealings. Government officials and executives can use another language only when speaking to a foreigner, the prime minister had said.
