Casablanca hosts international colloquy on future of Arab Jerusalem next week
Regional-Morocco, Politics, 2/19/1999

Casablanca plays host next week to an international colloquy on the "Future of Arab Jerusalem" meant to highlight the cause of the holy city.

The colloquy, to be held February 23-25 under the aegis of King Hassan II, is sponsored by the Paris-based Arab-European Studies Center, which decided to devote its seventh colloquy to the issue of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) to counter the Israeli maneuvers meant to Judaize the holy city, distort its historical sites and alter its demographic characteristics, through the construction of new settlements and the expulsion of Arabs from their hometown.

The gathering will debate the "statute of Jerusalem within monotheist religions," "Jerusalem and international legislation and accords," "Jerusalem and Arab and Islamic aspirations," "the future of the city in international diplomacy and in Middle Eastern diplomacy," "Jerusalem in the Media context," and "Jerusalem: development and investment perspectives."

The encounter, organized in cooperation with the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the European Commission, the Arab League and the World Islamic League, will be attended by several international figures. These include president of Palestine Yasser Arafat, OIC and Arab League secretaries general, secretary general of the organization of francophone countries and others.
