Iraqi FM in Yemen, talk of containing crisis with Arab states
Iraq-Yemen, Politics, 2/18/1999
Iraqi Foreign Minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf on Wednesday started an official visit to Sanaa. Al-Sahaf's visit falls in the context of a tour he is making to the countries of the Arab Maghreb and Sudan.
The Iraqi minister carried a message to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on the latest developments concerning current Iraqi conditions and the Arab stances concerning the issue of the embargo imposed on Iraq and the resolutions of the UN Security Council concerning the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990.
However, Arab diplomatic sources in Sanaa told the London-based al-Hayat daily that al-Sahaf visit to Sanaa aims at containing the disputes which hits the Yemeni- Iraqi relations following accusations addressed by Iraqi officials including al-Sahaf to the Yemeni government and other Arab governments in making conspiracies on Iraq and in pressuring it to give more concessions during the consultations held by several Arab foreign ministers including Yemen in both al-Ghardaqa and Cairo prior to the convening of the Arab foreign ministers conference held in Cairo on January 24.
