UN pays $84 million to victims of Iraqi invasion of Kuwait

The Kuwaiti News agency KUNA said on Wednesday that the UN committee in charge of compensating those who were damaged as a result of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait will pay today US $84 million to the victims of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
The agency quoted the board chairman of the general commission for estimating compensations Khaled al-Madaf as saying that "this is the fifth payment of sums allotted to group A, relating to those who departed Kuwait during the period of the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait and group G, relating to individual losses which are less than $100,000 US."
However, some 33801 persons will benefit from these compensations including 25487 persons from group A and 8314 persons from group G.
