Some 3,500 Iraqi, Sudanese refugees in Lebanon

Chairman of the UN protection department at the United Nations High Comission on Refugees in Geneva, Dennis MacNamara, said there are 2,500 refugees from Sudan, Iraq and other countries in Lebanon, to which the organization provides aid estimated at US $2 million per year.
MacNamar's statements were made following his meetings with Lebanese Premier and Foreign Minister Salim al-Hoss and the Lebanese minister of the interior in the course of his visit to Lebanon.
MacNamar added that, "Lebanon is an important country for us in relation to refugee issues."
MacNamar was careful to explain that "UNHCR does not deal with the Palestinian refugees, whose issues are run by UNRWA."
