Egypt reject four Israeli requests to free convicted spy
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 2/17/1999
Egyptian political sources stated that Egypt received four Israeli requests urging the Egyptian authorities to take positive steps to release the Israeli spy Azam Azam.
The requests were sent by Israeli President Ezer Weizman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Internal Security Avigdor Kahalani, and Ehud Barak, leader of the opposition Labor Party.
The demands called for an Egyptian reply on the Israeli decision to free Egyptian prisoner Mahmud El-Sawareka and the importance of Egypt's fulfillment of pledges to settle Azam's case at the proper time.
The sources confirmed Egypt's rejection of these demands. The Egyptian refusal stated that Egypt did not present commitments or pledges concerning this matter.
