Abdul Meguid intends to resume efforts to solve Kuwait captives issue
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 2/17/1999

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid stated yesterday at a meeting of members of board directors of the Kuwaiti captives' families' association that it is his intention to resume efforts to solve the issue of Kuwaiti captives in Iraq.

Kuwait claims that Iraq still holds Kuwaitis as a result of its invasion of Kuwait.

Meguid said the Arab League's efforts in this field will be more effective following the UN Security Council's formation of a special committee to deal with this subject.

Abdul Meguid urged the Arab League to resume discussions between the AL and the Iraqi government to get a clear picture of the facts and information in this case, adding that the case of the Kuwaiti captives takes priority on the Arab League's agenda.
