Saudi dailies and Iraq's threats
Saudi Arabia-Iraq, Politics, 2/17/1999

The Saudi daily al-Riyadh on Tuesday described threats made by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to strike the US and British forces and the countries he described as "enemies" in the region as coming "under the intensive crisis this ailing regime suffers."

In its editorial, the paper said that if Saddam owned anything by which he could even wound a finger of a British or American soldier or to undermine the security of any Gulf state, he would have done that.

For its part the Saudi daily Okaz warned the Iraqi government against the consequences of carrying out its threats against Saudi Arabia, asserting that the Saudi reply would be decisive.

In its Tuesday commentary, the paper added that Saudi Arabia will spare no efforts in taking all measures to protect its territories and people, noting that Saudi Arabia has the capabilities to give the Iraqi regime a new lesson, in reference to the consequences of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on Iraq.
