Reactions to Ocalan arrest
Regional, Politics, 2/16/1999

A Kurdish official in Athens said that supporters of Abdullah Ocalan received instructions to end their occupation of Greek embassies and missions in various parts of Europe.

Reuters quoted the Kurdish citizen Yasser Kaya as saying in Athens "we have asked all our organizations to evacuate from all Greek embassies and consulates," adding that the Kurdistani Workers Party which is headed by Ocalan will do the same thing.

In Rome, Ocalan's lawyer Eberhurt Shultz, accused the Kenyan authorities of kidnapping his client ( Ocalan) in Nairobi after giving him signals of having a positive settlement for his case. Shultz, who is of German origin, told the German TV ( A. R. D) that Ocalan was deceived and taken out of the Greek embassy and then taken to an unknown place.

Italian lawyer Leige Saraseini, who also defends Ocalan appealed the Italian government to mediate at the Turkish government in order to salvage Ocalan. Saraseini called upon Rome to resort to diplomatic means in order to ensure dealing with Ocalan in a humanitarian way. In the Hague, the Dutch Foreign Ministry denied to have been a side in the assassination attempt of Ocalan. The spokesman for the ministry added that the Dutch government did not play any role in getting Ocalan out of the Greek embassy in Nairobi.
