Greek government statement of Ocalan
Regional, Politics, 2/16/1999

The Greek government today said that Abdullah Ocalan was residing in Greek properties in Kenya until yesterday ( Monday), when he left for unknown destination.

A statement issued by the Greek government today in Athens said that Greece ensured to Ocalan a place to stay in Kenya after he failed to find out a European country ready to receive him.

The statement added that the Greek government offered Ocalan this place in order to help in finding a solution for his problem on the European level following the numerous attempts Ocalan made to have a sanctuary for himself in various European countries. The statement did not mention where Ocalan had stayed, but indicated that he was either at the Greek embassy or at a diplomatic residence. The statement also did not mention when and how Ocalan arrived in Kenya.

The statement continued that Ocalan left his residence on Monday and that the Greek authorities since then have not received any information from the Kenyan authorities on the place of his existence.
