Syrian President discuss Middle East developments with US congress delegation

President Hafez al-Assad on Monday at the Damascus al-Shaab palace received members of the US House of the Representatives and member of the International Relations Committee at the house, Sam Gejdenson, as well as members of the accompanying delegation, including the chairman of the Middle East Center for Peace and Economic Development in Washington, Daniel Abraham, and the director of the center, Dan Owens.

Talks dealt with the situation in the region.and efforts made to revive the Middle East peace process.

Gejdenson, who is also the chairman of the Democratic Minority on the committee at the US House of Representatives, expressed his conviction that "peace in the region cannot be established without Syria."

Relations between Syria and the US were also reviewed.

The meeting was attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa and the US ambassador in Damascus, Ryan Crocker.
