Lebanese president confers with Italian health minister
Lebanon-Italy, Politics, 2/16/1999

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Monday in Beirut received Italian Health Minister Rosaria Bindi, currently visiting Lebanon.

Present at the meeting were Lebanese Public Health Minister Karam Karam and the Italian ambassador to Lebanon. Talks dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the area of health.

Earlier in the day, the Lebanese minister discussed with his Italian counterpart health cooperation between Lebanon and Italy and means of developing them. Following the meeting, Karam said the visit of the Italian minister to Beirut falls in the course of the Italian-Lebanese protocol's provisions, which are based on providing aid to Lebanon to develop its health system.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Lebanon and Italy on scientific and technical exchange in the field of "health education." The Italian minister stressed the need to develop relations between Italy and Lebanon in all fields.
