King Hassan II receives Iraqi foreign minister and Bundestag chief
Morocco-Iraq-European Union, Politics, 2/13/1999
King Hassan II received separately in Marrakesh (southern Morocco) on Friday Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohamed Said al-Sahaf and the speaker of the German Bundestag, Thierse Wolfgang.
The Iraqi official arrived Thursday in Morocco, part of an Arab tour aimed at lobbying for Arab efforts to lift of the embargo imposed on Iraq since 1990 and adopting a common Arab stand regarding the US-British strikes.
Al-Sahaf had earlier paid similar visits to Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
For his part, Speaker of the Bundestag (lower Chamber of the German Parliament) has been visiting Morocco since last Wednesday to give momentum to bilateral economic cooperation as well as to Morocco's relations with the European Union, whose rotating chairmanship is currently held by Germany.
The agenda of the Euro-Mediterranean conference scheduled this year in Stuttgart was also covered by the Bundestag speaker's talks with Moroccan officials.
