Taleban: Any US strikes against Bin Laden will be unforgettable mistake
Regional-Afghanistan, Politics, 2/12/1999

The Afghan Taleban movement said on Thursday that any new US air strikes against exiled Saudi billionaire Osama Bin Laden will be an "unforgettable mistake."

Chief spokesman for Taleban Wakeel Ahmad Mutawakil said that news about plans to attack western targets are mere rumors fabricated by Washington to justify new air strikes. Mutawakil said US new air raids against Afghanistan now are a clear evidence of Washington's determination to rule the world in a dictatorial way.

Earlier in the day, US officials said that restrictions imposed by the Taleban movement on Bin Laden are not enough. "Our view is what they have announced falls woefully short of that which is required," US State Department deputy spokesman James Foley said. The US is prepared to carry out new air raids if it is necessary to prevent what they described as "future terrorist attacks" by Bin Laden, he said.
