Yemen, Britain try to repair their rift
Yemen-UK, Politics, 2/12/1999

Yemen and Britain seek to restore relations between them as well as to alleviate tensions that resulted from the deaths of British tourists after they were kidnapped by extremists in Yemen.

Officials from the two countries had asserted the need to surpass this problem and exert efforts to contain the damage resulting from that incident. Yemeni Deputy Foreign Minister Abdullah al-Saeedi said on Wednesday that the aggressive way the two countries' mass media embarked on covering the incident had an adverse impact on relations between the two countries.

The British ambassador in Sanaa, Victor Henderson, had urged not to permit this incident to affect relations between Yemen and Britain, due to the losses inflicted on investment, tourism and aid provided to Yemen.
