Libya, Tunisia sign joint development projects agreement
Libya-Tunisia, Economics, 2/12/1999

An agreement was signed in Tripoli on Thursday between Libya and Tunisia, calling for cooperation in the areas of equipment, housing, communications, transport and the protection of the environment.

On the Libyan side the agreement was signed by the secretary of the Libyan committee for housing and utilities, Mubarak al-Shamekh, and on the Tunisian side by Communication Minister Ahmad Farei'a. The agreement asserts the need to establish joint factories to process cement and building materials and carry out joint development projects between the two countries and study the sea-cable project between Libya and Tunisia and the possibility of linking it to the European network.

The agreement also cites a need to draw up a final formula for a bilateral agreement for sea transport towards the Arab states and the countries of East Africa as well as other projects which consolidate cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
