Palestine-Israel, Politics, 2/11/1999
A delegation representing the Palestinian government on Wednesday met with Israeli President Ezer Weizman to call for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have been detained for tens of years.
Israel Radio said the delegation, led by Arafat's advisor Ahmed al-Teibi, asked for defining the charges against those prisoners and trying them.
On Wednesday the Israeli authorities released Egyptian citizen Mahmoud Sawareqa, who was sentenced to 45 year of imprisonment in 1977 under charges of planting mines in Sinai.
The land mine explosion resulted in killing two Israeli soldiers and the man was released after he spent 22 years in the Israeli jails.
