Respect of trade union rights is essential for promotion of enterprises
Morocco, Economics, 2/10/1999

Moroccan minister of social development, employment and vocational training, Khalid Alioua, said Tuesday here that the respect of trade union rights is essential for the promotion of enterprises and development of the workforce skills.

In a speech opening Tuesday a two-day conference in Rabat to compare Morocco's trade union regulations and international labor norms, Alioua underlined the importance the Moroccan government grants to the protection of the workers and trade union rights and regulations. He also affirmed that the government advocates dialogue for the settlement of problems between managers and workers.

For his part, a top executive from the International Labor Organization who was invited to the conference, hailed Morocco's attachment to the ideals of peace and social justice. He also paid tribute to the efforts made by the kingdom to adapt its labor and trade union laws to international regulations and mainly those of the ILO conventions.

The conference, organized by Morocco's employment department in collaboration with the ILO, features debates on Morocco's labor code, the rights granted by Moroccan law to trade unions, employers and workers.

Participants will also hear reports on international labor rights and will assess the progress made by Morocco to promote and protect the union basic rights.
