Morocco and Egypt agree to open permanent handicraft shows
Morocco-Egypt, Economics, 2/6/1999
Morocco and Egypt agreed to open permanent handicraft shows to display products of the two countries and contribute to increasing trade exchange and cooperation in matters of handicraft and related sectors.
The decision was made by the Moroccan handicraft minister, Alami Tazi, and Egyptian Trade Minister Ahmed Goweili on the fringes of the first meeting of the Moroccan-Egyptian business council which convened in Morocco last Monday and Tuesday.
The council reviewed ways of boosting trade exchange, investment and setting up joint ventures in fishing, maritime transport and tourism.
Recommendations adopted by the council will be submitted to the joint high cooperation commission to meet in Morocco next spring.
Moroccan and Egyptian Businessmen say trade exchanges, which do not exceed currently $30 Million, can reach $200 Million by year 2000 if some measures are taken to facilitate contacts between the two countries private sectors.
The two countries entrepreneurs called for visas suppression and for the consolidation of maritime and air links and for enhancing coordination between Moroccan and Egyptian bourses and banks.
