Moroccan government renews will to promote business environment

The Moroccan government said it is determined to go ahead with efforts to promote the business environment in Morocco.

Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi, who was attending a business gathering in Casablanca, stressed the government's commitment to backing investment and innovative actions within the country's firms. "Innovation is a decisive factor in the development and survival of the firm," he insisted.

"Innovate or disappear" should be the motto for enterprises, Youssoufi said, before noting that innovation should not be restricted to creating new and efficient production mechanisms. It should also consolidate the social and human dimension within the firm's structures.

The Prime Minister announced that a series of important laws will be adopted in 1999, especially in the fields of industrial property, competition, customs and labor.

The creation of a national investment promotion agency is under scrutiny, he said. The agency will be an efficient interlocutor between authorities and national and foreign investors.

The government also grants a keen interest in small and medium enterprises and will endeavor to promote their global environment under a projected charter, he said.
