Japanese emperor wants relations with Morocco be enhanced

Japanese Emperor, Akihito, voiced hope to see Moroccan-Japanese relations enhanced and hailed the friendly ties binding him to King Hassan II of Morocco.

At meeting held Wednesday in Tokyo with a Moroccan parliamentary delegation, the emperor praised the sound and longstanding ties existing between the two countries which share the same noble values and principles.

For his part, Abdelouahed Radi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, underlined the solidity of the Moroccan-Japanese relations and Japan's active support to Morocco's economic and social development process.

During their stay in Japan, the delegation met with several Japanese officials including prime minister, Keizo Obuchi and major political group leaders.

Talks focused on cooperation prospects between the Moroccan and Japanese legislative bodies, the evolution of trade exchanges, investments, the Sahara issue, Morocco's economic performance and efforts to promote human rights and enhance democracy.

A communique released by the Moroccan parliament underlined the convergence of the Moroccan-Japanese viewpoints regarding all topical issues reviewed during the visit.

Morocco an Japan, the communique said, agreed to foster contacts between the two countries law makers, upgrade trade exchanges and diversify partnership in all sectors.
