Gulf states invest $767 million in textile industry

Abd El-Rahman El-Gafery, the secretary general of the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultations, announced that the clothing and textile industries in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council is poised to play an effective role in the economies of the GCC states and in the industrial structure in the area.
He added that ready-made clothes and textiles achieved great development that moved them from a traditional manual industry to modern developed industries.
He stated that these industries moved in a very short time through exporting ready-made clothes to compete in the markets of industrial countries like the United States, Canada and the European Union member states.
He also said that according to 1997 statistics the factories working in the council's countries numbered 400 whose investments reached $767 million and employed 60,000 workers.
