Tensions escalate between Hamas, Palestinian Authority
Palestine, Politics, 2/4/1999
Relations between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority have witnessed a rise in tensions in light of accusations exchanged between them following the killing of a Palestinian officer and detention of 27 members of the military wing of Hamas in Gaza.
Security sources said that the Palestinian security bodies were able to confiscate a number of weapons during an inspection campaign following the shooting of the officer.
The leader of Hamas attacked the Palestinian authority for carrying out the detention campaign, pointing out that implementing Israeli security conditions means putting an end to Hamas.
On the other hand, the Palestinian government stated that the killers of the officer are from Hamas' military wing and they were ordered by Hamas leaders to shoot the Palestinian security men.
