More Iraqi accusations against the Arab states
Iraq, Politics, 2/3/1999
Iraqi dailies issued on Tuesday accused the Arab countries, especially Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, of taking part in the US plan to topple the Iraqi government.
The Iraqi daily al-Qadeseyah criticized the Arab leaders "who keep silent towards the anti-Iraq US moves."
For its part the Iraqi daily "al-Iraq" said in reference to the current tour being made by US Undersecretary of State for Middle East Affairs Martin Indyk to raise support for toppling Iraq's government that the "illusions of the Americans and their followers are dumped. With them also dumped are the rulers of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia."
The Iraqi daily al-Joumhureyah said that the UN Security Council and the UN have lost their legal and moral capabilities to take "fair and even" decisions.
The paper added that the announcement made by the UN Security Council to form three committees to evaluate relations with Iraq constitutes a violation of the nature of international relations and international law and intends to perpetuate the sanctions imposed on Iraq.
Meanwhile, Iraq renewed its pledge to challenge the air embargo imposed upon south and north of countries by the USA.
An Iraqi source said that regardless of what the United States is doing in the Security Council, Iraq will not accept for its sovereignty to be negotiated. Following the US - British air strikes on Iraq during last December, Baghdad refused to allow United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) members to return and accused them of working for the United States.
