Saudi paper criticizes Saddam Hussein
Saudi Arabia-Iraq, Politics, 2/2/1999

The Saudi daily al-Madina on Monday criticized the Iraqi government and denounced its refusal of the initiative submitted by the UN Security Council to form three committees to reevaluate the UN's policies toward Iraq.

In its commentary on Monday, the paper said that the "carelessness of the Iraqi regime towards the sufferings of its people could obstruct plans aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Iraqi people."

For its part, the Saudi daily al-Riyadh warned Baghdad's government against refusing the new initiative of the UN Security Council concerning the situation in Iraq. The UN Security Council initiative is based on a Canadian proposal (Canada yesterday assumed the rotating chair of the U.N. Security Council) which won the total consensus of the UN Security Council members.
