King Hussein's sister and brother offer to donate bone marrow for transplant
Jordan, Politics, 2/1/1999
Jordan's Ambassador to the US, Marwan Muashar, said on Saturday night that King Hussein is much better than he was several days ago. Muashar added that King Hussein's morale is high before the beginning of the second phase of his treatment for cancer at the Mayo Clinic hospital in the United States and that he is in firm contact with his son, Crown Prince Abdullah.
Last week King Hussein was urgently admitted to the Mayo Clinic after doctors had decided that he had to undergo medical tests after the king suffered from frequent temperature rises and a decrease in the number of red blood cells.
King Hussein's sister, Princess Basma, and his brother, Prince Mohammed both volunteered as donors in the bone marrow transplant, which is considered a decisive surgery in the king's treatment.
The doctors confirmed that there is no third possibility for the surgery, stating that the chance of the surgery's success in saving the king, doesn't exceed 15%.
Meanwhile, one of the royal family members said that: after the chemical cure the king's health state became ready to undergo such surgery and his morales became very good and ready for such surgery without hesitation.
