Tunisian-Egyptian higher committee meets next month
Egypt-Tunisia, Politics, 2/1/1999

The Tunisian-Egyptian higher committee will meet next month in Tunisia under the chairmanship of Tunisian Prime Minister Hamid al-Qurawi and his Egyptian counterpart, Kamal al-Ganzouri.

This meeting will continue the annual meetings between the two countries since they tried to eliminate the coolness in their bilateral relations following the African summit conference which was held in Tunisia in 1994.

In 1996, Egyptian-Tunisian relations were restored to normalcy and in the three past sessions the higher joint committee adopted practical decisions and steps that helped improve bilateral cooperation strides.

Well-informed Tunisian sources said that the meetings of the forthcoming session will center on evaluating the outcomes of bilateral agreements implemented since the previous session as well as on exploring new non-traditional areas of bilateral cooperation.

Well-informed Tunisian sources said that the Tunisian and Egyptians are studying measures that would be able to give a push to bilateral relations to cope with the already-developed political relations.

The Tunisian sources added that al-Ganzouri's visit to Tunisia will be a great chance to hold talks with Tunisian politicians, foremost with President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali, and these talks are to cover regional and international issues, especially developments in the Iraqi crisis, the Lockerbie incident and the stalemated Middle East peace process.
