UAE Deputy Premier calls for finding an Arab solution to the Iraqi problem
United Arab Emirates-UK, Politics, 2/1/1999
United Arab Emirates Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed al-Nahyan on Sunday in Abu Dhabi asserted the need for Arab and international moves to lift the sufferings of the Iraqi people as a result of the imposed embargo.
The Gulf News Agency said that Sheikh Sultan explained during his meeting on Sunday with parliament members and the executive chairman of the parliamentary foreign relations committee at the British Labor Party, George Galloway, that lifting the suffering of the Iraqi people requires settling the Iraqi issue through political and diplomatic efforts as well as Iraq's implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.
He stressed the need for an Arab initiative in order to crystallize a united Arab stand toward finding an outlet for the Iraqi crisis that ensures security and stability in the region.
The two sides reviewed conditions in the Arab Gulf region and exchanged views on humanitarian conditions in Iraq and the efforts exerted by Galloway to help the Iraqi people, especially cancer-infected children.
