Former US attorney general Cairo
Egypt-USA, Politics, 1/30/1999

Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, who is the legal defense lawyer for chief of the Islamic Group, Sheikh Omar Abd El-Rahman, who is imprisoned in America, is starting on Monday a three-day visit to Cairo that aims at launching a campaign to release his client.

Montaser El-Zayat, a member of the Egyptian defense team for Sheikh Omar Abd El-Rahman, said Clark will convene a press conference on Tuesday morning in Cairo to announce the judicial procedures taken by the prison's administration including abuses and insults to him and procedures that prevent him from receiving treatment for many diseases.

El-Zayat added that Clark will talk in the conference about Sheikh Abd El-Rahman's peaceful trend and his opinion on the initiative for ceasing violence started by the historic leaders of the Islamic Group, who are imprisoned in the assassination case of the late Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat.
