Moroccan government calls Arabs to turn page of the past
Morocco, Politics, 1/29/1999
Spokesman of the Moroccan government, Khalid Alioua, called the Arab world to turn the page of the past and meet Arab peoples' aspirations for unification.
The spokesman who is also minister of social development, employment and vocational training, said the meeting held this January 24 by Arab foreign ministers was "half a success." The meeting failed to reach a solution likely to give a new impetus to Arab action, he deplored, MAP reported.
Hopes are pinned on initiatives from Morocco and the Arab Maghreb and those of other Arab states, he added.
Iraqi foreign minister, Mohamed Said Essahaf, walked out of the meeting to protest the final statement which did not expressly condemned the US-British raids against his country.
