Riyadh backs an international agreement to fight terrorism
Saudi Arabia-Regional, Politics, 1/29/1999
Saudi Minister of the Interior Prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud has supported laying down an international agreement to fight terrorism, under the supervision of the UN.
The Saudi News Agency said that, "The Arab countries are looking forward for an international agreement between all world countries to fight terrorism under the umbrella of the UN."
The Saudi minister of the interior refused the accusations made in describing Arabs as terrorists, saying: "We refuse that terrorism is attributed to the Arabs. We are determined to fight it and we ask all world countries to participate with us in this action."
Before he headed for Saudi Arabia on Thursday to take part, leading the Saudi delegation, in the meetings of the Arab ministers of the Interior to be held today in Amman, the Saudi minister stated that, "These meetings complete the already taken decisions adopted by the meeting of the Arab ministers of the Interior held in 1998 and the achievements realized in the meetings of all Arab security branches."
He added that the council of the Arab ministers of the interior is concerned with following up the anti-terrorism pact signed by the Arab states and with all matters previously agreed upon by the Arab countries, "including drug trafficking, inter-Arab security cooperation and the security strategy."
