Israel admits failure of military acts in south Lebanon
Israel, Politics, 1/29/1999
Chief of staff of the Israeli Army, Shaul Mufaz, has admitted the failure of the military operations carried out by the Israeli occupation army in south Lebanon.
Mufaz's statements were made in comments on the results of an Israeli military investigation committee concerning a friendly-fire exchange incident that erupted in October 1998 between two Israeli armored vehicles, which resulted in the death or wounding of several Israeli soldiers and army officers.
The Israeli army radio quoted Mufaz as saying that "numerous mistakes take place during implementation of military operations," due to what he called the "care of the military leaders to precisely carry out the instructions."
Mufaz said that one of the major Israeli army officers in south Lebanon, Gen. Assaf Laeed, was transferred to administrative services in the army on the background of the confrontation between the two Israeli armored vehicles.
