Tunis hosts Mediterranean conference on trade and environment
Regional-Tunisia, Economics, 1/28/1999

A Mediterranean conference on trade and environment opened on Wednesday in Tunis with the participation of Mediterranean experts and representatives of international organizations, including the World Bank and the Harvard Institute for international development.

Participants in the three-day meeting are debating issues related to trade, environment and privatization on the basis of the experience of case-countries from the region.

Tunisian environment minister, Mohamed Mlika, underlined the close link existing between environment and trade exchanges especially in view of the economic globalization process that poses serious challenges to the Mediterranean basin especially in environment and development matters.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Tunisian government and the Assistance Program for Environment in the Mediterranean.
