Morocco and Andalucia to intensify cooperation in fight against forest fire
Morocco-Spain, Environment, 1/28/1999

Morocco and the southern Spanish autonomous government of Andalucia have voiced determination to intensify their cooperation in matters of struggle against forest fire.

Moroccan minister of water and forests minister, Said Chabaatou, and Andalucia's environment minister, Jose Luis Romero Blanco, highlighted the similarities between the forest ecosystems of northern Morocco and southern Spain.

Those similarities favor the intensification of cooperation in these fields between the government of Andalucia and Morocco, the two officials said.

Forests in northern Morocco are often prey to fire, especially during the hot summer seasons.

Morocco and Andalucia are sponsoring several projects, including a plan of fight forest fires in northern Morocco and a project to develop a natural reserve, called Talasamtane.
