Morocco, Politics, 1/28/1999
The Moroccan press union (SNPM) presented to the Moroccan human rights minister a package of proposals to amend the press laws, the ministry said in a release.
The amendments, presented during a meeting of SNPM representatives and human rights minister Mohamed Aujjar, deal with the press code, freedom of information and books publishing.
Aujjar underlined the government's efforts to adapt national laws to international charters in matters of human rights within the respect of the principles of Islam and the values of the Moroccan society.
Younes Moujahid, SNPM secretary-general, said the union gives great importance to amending the press laws to guarantee the dignity of journalists and reinforce the power of the press in the society.
