Cost of meals distributed in Ramadan reached $ 1.5 million
Morocco, Culture, 1/27/1999
The cost of meals, distributed during the fasting month of Ramadan, to poorest people reached $ 1.5 million, said Moroccan secretary of state for solidarity and humanitarian action, Hammou Ouhali.
The cost is only half of the initial sum allocated to this charity operation conducted by a national committee that was chaired by crown prince Sidi Mohammed. Some 37,261 meals were served daily from December 20 through January 18 to needy persons.
The official said the remainder of the sum (over $ 1.3 mln) will be given back to the fund providers.
This surplus was made possible thanks to the suppliers' refusal to make profits on the sold food products, he added.
