Syria-UK, Religion, 1/27/1999
The Archbishop of Canterbury, England, Dr. George L. Carey, and members of his accompanying delegation arrive in Damascus today for a visit which will last for several days. Dr. Carey will meet with several Syrian officials, as well as Islamic and Christian men of religion.
He will visit several churches and mosques, monuments and historical sites in Damascus and Damascus countryside province.
During his visit Dr. Carey will deliver a lecture at the hall of al-Saleeb (Cross) Church in Damascus about the second millennium and the message of Christianity and its nature in a changing world.
Carey's visit to Syria falls in the course of dialogue, friendship and cooperation among peoples and religions. It is, however, the first time the Archbishop of Canterbury has visited Syria.
