Arab League calls for halt to British - US air strikes on Iraq

US warplanes on Tuesday launched new attacks against three Iraqi sites near al-Mosul.
US Air Force news said that US fighter jets attacked radar positions in three seperate incidents near the town of al-Mosul. The statement said that the missiles were fired when Iraqi defenses were activated against the US planes in the no-fly zone.
Meanwhile, the general secretariat of the Arab League on Tuesday called for halting the British - American air strikes against Iraq and working to find a diplomatic solution to the Iraq crisis.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the AL reiterated its call to halt the military aggressions, referring in this regard to the final statement of the meeting concluded by the Arab foreign ministers's council on Sunday in Cairo.
The AL general secretariat indicated that the Arab states reaffirm their "support for the sovereignty of Iraq and non-intervention in its internal affairs."
Meanwhile earlier this week, Pope John Paul II called the US attacks on Iraq an "aggression."
