EU projects initiative to improve Iraq's humanitarian situation
Iraq, Economics, 1/26/1999
The foreign affairs ministers council of the European Union cited Monday the possibility of undertaking an initiative to develop the EU's role to improve the humanitarian situation in Iraq, but no decision was made.
In their conclusions, the foreign ministers defended "a future integration of Iraq in the international community" and "a more prosperous and dignified life for Iraqi civilian population."
Meanwhile, the 15 member countries stressed the need for Iraq to fulfill entirely its obligations in conformity with the UN security council resolutions and called the Iraqi government to cooperate to reach this goal. They also praised the security council's discussion to reach an agreement to the issue of mass-destruction weapons and on the living conditions of Iraqis.
