Colombia voices backing to Morocco's territorial integrity

Speaker of the Colombian house of representatives, Emilio Martinez Rosales, voiced his country's backing to Morocco's territorial integrity and pledged to launch a campaign to inform Colombian legislators on Morocco's legitimate rights regarding the Sahara issue.
At a meeting held on Monday in Rabat with Moroccan peer, Abdelouahed Radi, Emilio Martinez expressed the Colombian people's solidarity with Morocco in the Sahara issue which the Kingdom retrieved from Spain in 1974 under the Madrid accords.He also urged the Moroccan parliament to back Colombia's peace efforts in international fora in view of Morocco's strategic location and importance on Arab, African and international scenes.
The Colombian speaker added that his country wants to benefit from Morocco's experiences in sea resources protection and tourism promotion.
For his part, Abdelouahed Radi underlined Morocco's readiness to foster economic, political and cultural ties with Columbia. The two countries, he said, share the same resolve to promote the rule of law, democracy, social peace and enhance the economic progress.
He also thanked the Colombian official for his backing to Morocco's territorial integrity and underlined the Kingdom's attachment to the participation of all its Sahrawi sons in the projected UN referendum to determine whether the Sahara would join Morocco and set up on its own.
Meanwhile, Morocco and Colombia agreed on Monday here to set up a parliamentary friendship group to foster contacts and dialogue between the two countries MPs in economic and political fields.
A joint declaration was signed in this regard by speaker of the Moroccan house of representatives, Abdelouahed Radi and his Colombian peer, Emilio Martinez Rosales, who arrived last weekend in Morocco on a work visit.
The declaration calls for the consolidation of Moroccan - Colombian partnership in trade, education and culture.
It also stresses the need to convene regular meetings to coordinate stands regarding topical issues of common concern and calls for the development of bilateral relations and intensification of efforts to promote world peace and stability.
