Arab FMs meeting will not call for lifting sanctions off Iraq
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 1/23/1999

The Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am said today (Saturday) quoting Arab diplomatic sources in Cairo as saying that the final statement of the Arab FM s consultation meeting will not call for lifting the embargo imposed on Iraq, rather will call upon Iraq to carry out UN resolutions as the only way to lift the sanctions.

The sources added the statement's draft which was distributed by several Arab officials was the outcome of al-Ghardaqa and Cairo meetings which included the foreign ministers of Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen.

The sources said a small margin was left in the draft for the consultation meeting as a result of "Syrian's reservations on certain items mentioned in the statement."
